Youth (Girls) Online

Cross-border meeting day "Youth (girls) online"

We read about it in the newspapers and see it on TV, but you probably also notice it in your own environment: children and young people feel and felt severely restricted by the corona crisis. Forced to face their fears, insecurities, and worries about the future from their home situation.

Research conducted by the NJI (Netherlands Youth Institute), the GGD (the Netherlands Health Services) of the Child Helpline showed that young girls in particular miss contact with other peers enormously and feel lonely, bored and depressed.

That´s the reason to organize a cross-border meeting day.

A day full of activities in which girls and boys between eleven and twenty years old were able to participate for free; from the province of Gelderland, Limburg (NL) and Limburg (B), Overijssel and North Rhine-Westphalia. Free of charge of course. We wanted to give all young people the opportunity to participate in this European community project.

On Sunday, June 27, 2021, four different interactive online workshops took place between 12:00 and 19:00, each lasting a maximum of one and a half hours and it will be transmitted live from a studio in Doetinchem.

1. draw IT
2. pimp cupcakes
3. beauty (hair & make-up)
4. jerusalema challenge followed by dancing together.

Through a Zoom connection, the young people were in contact with a Dutch and a German workshop leader who  guided and explained the activity. There will be time for discussion and conversation during and after each workshop. Before the workshops started , each participant  received a parcel with materials that will be used during the workshops, such as fondant and special drawing materials.

It was important that the young people register by Monday, June 21, otherwise it could have been problematic to send the packages

A maximum of 300 young people could have  participated.

And by the way: Not knowing the other person’s language was not an obstacle, but a challenge!

The workshops was able to be followed separately via Zoom. For more information , please visit
